For the fourth year in a row the “Young Guns” took part in a Holiday Season tournament representing Lakehill Soccer Association. The 2007 Boys U-11 Lakehill “Young Guns” squad participated in the 5th Annual “Bring It Indoors” Bay’s United FC Indoor Winter Turf Tournament held at Oak Bay Recreation Center. Playing in three games over two days, “Young Guns” went undefeated tying their first two games on Saturday December 29th, wrapping up their tournament on Sunday, December 30th with a total team generated 8-2 win. Coaches Patrick Kehoe and Ian Daniel were impressed with the overall team speed, skill, commitment and sportsmanship exhibited by all nine members of the squad.
Tournament Director Murray Bigam called the 2-2 draw with Gorge’s outstanding side – Lakehill players suffering two injuries in this their opening game – thee match of the tournament. Throughout the games the “Young Guns” played with relentless offensive pressure and disciplined defensive awareness, which fostered some very creative passing sequences and break out goals. The goal tending duties in this 4 on 4, 20 minute per half format, were shared by the entire team. Also, the full back-sweeper position was rotated, allowing for players to experience most all aspects of positional responsibility in the quick tempo, combination play orientated indoor game.
Both coaches wish to acknowledge the efforts of all the parents involved for taking the time, during the always busy winter Holiday Season, to have the kids out for practice and the tournament itself.
Well done everyone!
2007 Young Guns Team Members: Ryan B., Isaiah P., Rownan D-G., Matthew H., Matthew K., Gareth C., Dexter B., Dylan B. and Jordan A.
Coaches: Patrick Kehoe and Ian Daniel

This write-up was offered from Laura De Groot on the Lakehill U13 Boys Gold team Provincials competition:
For those interested, we came back from Kamloops with the Bronze. Unfortunately we lost to Kelowna 4-3 in our first game on Thursday. One unlucky own goal and our goalie not feeling 100% factor into that game - it could have gone either way.
2nd game - tied Guilford 1-1 - our boys played awesome. Guilford got the goal to tie the game in the last 30 seconds. What a game! Guilford won the Gold and we tied them the day before! What can I say!
3rd game - lost 7-3 to Marpole Blues - 36 degrees, tired kids and questionable referring. Met these guys in the final game for the bronze medal. We were 1-1 at the half. Marcus scored to make it 2-1 for us, then we got an own goal when their cross hit one of our players (in the last literally 3 seconds of the game) to tie it up. At 37 degrees the boys came back out for two ten minute halves of overtime. Marpole got a goal in the first minute of the second overtime. We came back and tied it up. Then we went into shoot outs and won! All 5 of our shooters scored and Danny Paton-Cavanagh stopped one of their shots.
With sun-soaked boys and tired parents we headed home proud with the bronze. Like I said - it was quite a weekend.

“Lakehill Guns” stormed though the 3rd Annual Bays United “Bring It Indoors!” mini’s soccer tournament on the weekend of December 17&18, 2005. This year’s edition of Lakehill’s young guns tournament side, made up of nine players from our U9 and U10 Boys Developmental teams, went undefeated over four games. With two games on Saturday and two games on Sunday, during the fast paced 4 vs. 4 action, the “Guns” only allowed 4 goals against, while netting 21. The competition was fast paced with the “Guns” playing a strong passing, counter attacking style of transitional soccer. Throughout the entire tournament, our players held to the highest level of sportsmanship and fair play, as did all the teams taking part in the competition.
Jaxon B led the way with his dribbling magic, commanding play and his team leading goal scoring rate. Jaxon was ably supported in the goal scoring department by the relentless trio of Mitchell B, Matthew H and Graeme H-L. Alex N and Mitchell W added scorching speed up front and timely passing from the wings.
On defense, Brian C, Rownan D-G and stopper Matthew K effectively shut down the opposition’s best combination passing in the defensive end. In the spirit of team play, eight of the nine “Guns” took to the nets to play a shift in goal, with Brian and Matthew taking most of the goal-keeping responsibility.
The “Lakehill Guns” would like to thank all the parents of the players who took the time to get the kids out for our two practice sessions at Oak Bay. Also, we would like to thank Mary Turner the U9 divisional manager for her assistance in obtaining extra jerseys. Thanks Mary!
And to Ian Daniel a big thanks goes out from all the players and parents for all your organizational and coaching efforts. Thanks Ian!
