Take a Referee course at a location near you:

The next Entry Level Referee Clinic is set for October 21, 2009 at Tyndall Park. Register through the BC Soccer Event Registration page. It is the entry point into the Provincial Referee Program.

Attendees must be no less than 14 years of age.

Passing the course allows you to obtain a Youth Referee Classification and officiate in any category of youth soccer or act as an assistant referee in youth and senior amateur soccer.

The next level, the District Referee Classification, is based passing the entry level referee clinic and being 16 years old or older.

The goal of this three day clinic is, through experienced referee instructors and video, to improve the knowledge level of referees in all aspect of the game. The topics covered include:

  • Laws of the Game.
  • Positioning.
  • Signals.
  • Administration of the game.
  • Preparation & Match Reporting.
Important: All volunteers in a position of responsibility over, or perceived responsibility over, anyone under the age of 19 is required to complete and submit a Risk Management form annually. This applies to Coaches, Referees, Team Managers, Executive - anyone involved with minors.

To continue as an official

Attend one of the required annual fitness testing/refresher course. Check the Club Calendar for upcoming dates.

To register for the fitness sessions, you can print off and fill out the attached form then send it with a $50 cheque to BC Soccer, 510 - 375 Water Street, Vancouver, BC V6B 5C6. If you officiate Lower Island Soccer Association (LISA) matches, the fee for the course is covered by LISA.

You may wish to obtain successively higher Referee certification by indicating as such on the Referee Registration Form.

To register for the Referee Refresher Course being hosted by Lakehill Soccer Association:

  • You must be Official registered with BC Soccer Association in order to attend this clinic. Register online via the BC Soccer Association Website
  • The intended audience are Youth; District; and Regional referees (not intended for Small Sided Officials. Attendees must be 14 years old within one month of the clinic date.

You may also want to attend the monthly Vancouver Island Soccer Referee Association (VISRA) meetings - open to all BCSA Officials.

Matches you officiate:

As you work as an official you will need to submit Match Reports.  These are available on the Lower Island Soccer Association Referee website as the Online Game & Discipline Reports.

Please refer to the attached for the appropriate Match Duration and Ball Size depending on the the age/division of the players.
