Next to players, Coaches are our most visible group of members. Some are trained Coaches, some are experienced players and some are just parents willing to invest some time and energy to help our players enjoy lively, outdoor activity in a team sport - all are volunteers.

Important: All volunteers in a position of responsibility over, or perceived responsibility over, anyone under the age of 19 is required to complete and submit a Risk Management form annually. This applies to Coaches, Referees, Team Managers, Executive - anyone involved with minors. See more about Risk Management

To begin work as an coach:

To begin as a coach, check the "Coach" box in the volunteer section of your child's (or your) registration. If you yourself are a player at Lakehill, are over the age of 15, and take up a position as primary coach for one of our teams, your registration fees for that year are waived.

• Anyone can apply for any coaching position.
• Recommendations for coaches are made by the Technical Committee to the Executive.
• The Executive makes the final decision.

You may also, or alternately, submit a Coaching Application Form. This is especially important if you wish to coach one of our Gold-level teams. Just like your career, and your child's development in the sport, you will need to set and track your goals as a coach if you intend to be involved with their endeavours as they continue to mature in the sport.

Study the breakdown of proper technique and effective play. Coaching is not the same as playing. Being able to correctly demonstrate a technique is valuable, but not as valuable as being able to present age- and ability-specific concepts and techniques that build skilled and confident players and effective teams.

At the beginning of the season, our Technical Director and Director of Coaching will give a walkthrough of the materials we provide, and age-specific information on the format of play and expectations of players and coaches.

The age group for BC Soccer clinics follows the progression:

• Community Coach Children (CCC)
• Community Coach Youth (CCY)
• Community Coach Senior (CCS)
• B-license
• A-license

Members may register directly with BCSA for local courses. Lakehill will reimburse course fees for our coaches on proof of successfully completing (i.e. passing) a BCSA Coaching course.

Community Coach Clinics: New Program

With the cooperation of Rob Csabai of the BCSA technical department, Lower Island Soccer Association (LISA) have been able to set up the Community Coach Series courses to run on a series on Monday evenings from mid September to mid December. This series of clinics will allow coaches to take part in all three courses, CCC, CCY and CCS over a period of 13 weeks in the fall. One of the criticisms of the Community Coach series is that it allows beginner coaches to become certified to an intermediate level in as little as five days. By breaking the courses up into smaller modules LISA are able to lengthen the time period and allow coaches to be immersed in coaching education for a longer period, which in turn will benefit our players. This pilot format will also allow coaches who need to take one or more of the courses, in order to move onto the Pre B course, the opportunity to do so in a more manageable time frame without the repetition and overlap between courses.

In order to register for the course, coaches must register and pay for the individual via the online registration system at www.bcsoccer.net

The course will take place at the following times and locations:

Policy Manuals for Youth Teams and Seniors Teams is located on the Policies page - allows coaches the ability to reference the expected procedures and conduct as outlined by the club.

Equipment and Uniforms

All jersey deposit cheques must be handed in before the uniform bag is given; a $50 deposit cheque for the keeper jersey (either from the dedicated Keeper or the Team Rep) must be included. Maintaining a Jersey List at the start of the season will make their return at the end of the season a lot easier.

T-shirts for in-house teams will be distributed as the start of the season draws closer. The cost of these shirts is included in the registration fees.

Equipment List - provides coaches a list of equipment to be provided by the club. Equipment pick up dates are set on the August and September Calendars.

Coaching Forms

Those wishing to coach in the tiered division levels for the 2007/08 season should submit a Coaching Application Form to the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. If a Coach wishes to have a player temporarily play for another team in the Full Field divisions (U13-U18), the Coach needs to complete and submit an Intra-Club Permit form to the the LISA office at least two days in advance of the planned match. See the applicable Rule for more information.

A Risk Management Form is required to be completed each year by all people at our Club in a position of responsibility over a person aged 18 years or younger.

Medical Forms are required to be filled out by all players and brought to each practice and game by each Coach or Team Representative.
